Er det gebyr for å ta ut penger?

  • 4 innleggMedlem siden mars 2026

I opened a konto in a liten nettbank some weeks ago. Tar ut på butikk og det koster 10 kr, the minibank is uklart. Appen only sier 'standard charges apply'.

Hva er den egentlige prisen på minibank-uttak, med eventuelle fremmednett-gebyrer? Må planlegge kontantbehovet og er på stramt budsjett. Takk for hjelp.

A minibank withdrawal in Norway costs anywhere from 0 to 40 kroner, but the exact figure depends entirely on which bank you use and whether you are at your own bank's machine, a partner machine, or another network's machine.

If you use your own bank's minibank, the fee is usually zero, because that's what the account package includes. But with a small online bank, you may not have any physical machines of your own, so every minibank you find will be in someone else's network, and that's where the charges start. The other bank that owns the machine can charge you a fee for using it, and your own bank can add a separate charge on top of that.

That double charge is the trap. You might expect to pay around 10 to 20 kroner for using another bank's machine, because that's what the larger banks tend to charge. But some online banks, especially the ones that promote themselves as cheap, add their own fee on every single withdrawal, regardless of network. So you can end up paying 30 to 40 kroner each time without a clear warning anywhere.

A grocery store withdrawal is usually cheaper, often 10 kroner or even free, because the store pays the terminal provider rather than passing a per-transaction fee to you. So if you need cash regularly, take out a bit more each time at the store instead of making several small minibank withdrawals. The store fee stays flat, while the minibank fee circles back and adds up.

For a budget, assume the worst until you see an actual charge on your statement. Test one withdrawal and check what lands on your account. That will tell you more than any condition document ever will, because the app's vague wording isn't going to help before you've got a number to look at.

Grocery store uttak is free from the store side, but minibank fees usually land between 0 and 40 kr depending on your bank and network. At minibanker i Norge it's a fixed per-withdrawal amount, not a percentage, plus any currency conversion if you're abroad. The common trap is assuming your own bank's machines are the only ones you'll use, a small online bank means every machine is someone else's. Count on the high end and check if they have a partner network that waives the fee. Cash back at matbutikk is usually free or 10 kr, and avoid minibanker at airports and tourist spots that often add a separate operator fee.

At the big banks' own machines it's 0 kr if you're a customer there, but online banks like Revolut or N26 hit you with 1.5-2% after the first free amount, which a lot of people miss.

The real cost abroad is the currency conversion, not the minibank fee itself. Banks add 1.5-2.5% above the mid-market rate, so it's best to withdraw larger amounts once rather than many small ones. In Thailand, the minibank itself adds a fixed 200-300 baht (around 50-80 kr) per withdrawal, and that's unavoidable. Airport exchange desks have the worst rates, often 4-5% worse, so skip those entirely.

Banks can ask where cash comes from under anti-money-laundering rules, especially for large amounts or irregular patterns. They can ask without suspicion, and you can say 'det er mine egne penger' for normal household money. But if you hit around 100,000 kr in a short period, or frequent large cash moves, they may demand documentation of source. Refusing to answer can lead to the account being closed, not just a blocked withdrawal.

Debit cards are usually included in your account package, often 0 to 200 kr per year. Inside Norway, store transactions are free for you, the merchant pays the fee. Abroad, a Visa/Mastercard conversion fee applies, some banks add an utlandspåslag of 1-2%. I keep a travel card without foreign fees for trips, that's worth it.

You can exchange up to 10,000 EUR (about 110,000 kr) per transaction without declaring anything, but above that triggers a report to Økokrim. Forex spreads are 1-3% plus a fixed 30-100 kr commission, so for small amounts a minibank abroad is cheaper. And airport desks are the worst, usually 4-5% off the mid-rate, so avoid them.
