Er 70% bonus bra?

  • 6 innleggMedlem siden sep. 2022

Just got a quote for my first car, and it shows 0% bonus, but the insurer said 70% is the max. I thought 70% was something only old-timers got. Is that actually a good deal, or is it just marketing to make the price look better?

    70% bonus means you pay 30% of the base premium. So on a 10 000 kr policy, you pay 3 000. It's a person-bound discount, not a car-bound one.

You get one step per claim-free year, starting at 0. So 70% takes nine years. You lose one step (20 percentage points in most systems) for each at-fault claim.

It follows you between insurers, so switching does not reset it. If an insurer miscalculates it when you switch, you complain to Finansklagenemnda and they have to honor your history.

80% is rare, only IF and Fremtind in their top tiers after 10-11 years without claims. Most cap at 70%. And skipping the bonus almost never pays because the discount is huge, but there is one edge case: if your car is cheap and your base premium is small, like 3000 kr, the 70% discount is only 900 kr, so a claim won't hurt. On a 20 000 kr premium it's a different story. Also, some companies cap young drivers at 40-50% until 25.

One at-fault claim costs you 20 percentage points. From 70% you drop to 50%, taking two claim-free years to rebuild. I had a parking scrape in 2019, repair was 9000 kr.

The premium rise from lost steps was 4000 kr per year, so 8000 kr over two years. Almost the same. So I paid out of pocket.

Rule of thumb: if the repair is less than the extra premium over the rebuild period, pay yourself. For anything over 15-20 000, report it.

Cheapest car to own is a small EV, like a used Leaf or e-Up. Insurance 5000-7000 kr/year even with 70% bonus, fuel is near zero, servicing cheap. I ran a Leaf for two years, total cost incl. insurance, electricity, tyres, depreciation was 1800 kr/month.

The type of car matters more than the bonus because the bonus is a percentage discount. A 20 000 kr premium on an SUV with 70% bonus is still 6000 kr. A 6000 kr premium on a small car is 1800 kr.

Har plukket opp nok mynter til å vite hva en bonus egentlig koster.

Kasko and delkasko cover lakkskader and curbed wheels, but not punctures. A puncture is wear and tear, never covered. I curbed a wheel, repair was 2800 kr, deductible was 3500 kr, so I paid everything. The rule: if damage is under the deductible, insurance pays nothing in practice. So for small stuff, don't even claim.
