The lisens fee is obligatory for any player taking part in organized matches, not just for the insurance but as official proof of eligibility. Without it, the club cannot field her and you risk a fine. It's not a voluntary add-on you can skip.

The base lisens for a youth player is around 150 kr, and it gives you the mandatory accident insurance tied to the club's license. It covers treatment costs like surgery and physical therapy for injuries during official training or matches, but it won't touch dental work or loss-of-income. Lisens pluss costs about 100 kr more and adds dental up to 10,000 kr plus a higher disability payout, 300,000 kr compared to the base 150,000 kr.
For a 14-year-old, that dental bit is the one that matters; a broken front tooth is a real risk on a handball court and it's a tiny price to pay. What catches most parents out is that it doesn't replace your private family insurance, it works on top of it. You still have to pay the lisens for her to be eligible, even if your own insurance covers everything.
The club can be fined and the match result voided if they field an unlicensed player, so don't skip it. If the fee is a struggle, the club has a solidarity fund and the region offers support through the federation's talent schemes, so talk to the club secretary. For claims, you deliver the injury report to the Norwegian Handball Federation within 14 days of the incident, otherwise coverage can be invalidated.

On the injury claim, don't rely on the club to send it. My knee injury last year, the club forgot the form and I ended up covering physio myself. Hand the report to the federation directly within 14 days, and keep a copy. The insurance pays out after treatment is done, so save the receipts.
